Support for parents with Neurodiverse Children

Embracing neurodiversity is about accepting, including, celebrating and supporting neurodivergent children.

Parenting children who are neurodivergent can be challenging but also awe-inspiring experiences

Ranges Counselling provides a safe and judgmental space for parents to express their concerns. Gabriel understands that carers fatigue and burn out is a very real experience, so it is imperative parents have their own counselling space.

Within our sessions we also address these fundamentals;

  • Recognising the underlying causes of your child's actions. Avoidance, attention-getting, sensory stimulation, protest, an attempt to get access, or an effort to transition from being helpless to having resources/ skills to manage behaviours of concern

  • Preparing plans to deal with predicted behaviours. The goal of this activity is to change what you can control, or what happens before and after a behaviour occurs, by looking at common troublesome behaviours.

Accept the feelings of your neurodiverse child. As they start to understand themselves and realise that you understand them as well, they will feel less emotionally alone.

Gabriel has worked in the NDIS and welfare sector for over a decade, as has worked as a senior practitioner and Behaviour Support Practitioner. Gabriel utilises his specialist skills to offer tailored support and planning for parents with neurodivergent children
